Sunday's are for chilling, for coffee and for getting ready for the week ahead!
So, you're here - welcome! I'm writing this blog to inspire and show the world that despite life's ups and downs. positivity will ALWAYS find it's way to you. This seems so out of my comfort zone but that's exactly why I want to speak to you guys and keep you updated with all things Jessica Rose!
I hope you will all join me on this journey as I scramble my thoughts into, somewhat, coherent sentences that will resonate with each and every one of you in some way. The main reason I wanted to write was for an outlet for my mental health - a subject so far reaching - and to share so that others may feel that they're not alone.
As a Psychology Graduate, I often sit and ponder about the world and how we interact with one another, why are we paranoid? Even writing that sentence I feel I will be judged, but life's lessons are about finding your own way to break those negative thought patterns and embrace the everyday. The way that people can help another even when they are feeling the lowest they possibly could, or suffering huge trauma in their lives gives me such hope for humanity. As you're probably aware, the world has gone to pot so any slither of happiness and hope is welcomed right? Well that's what I'm hoping to give you - with a twist or sarcasm and humour - because as you'll get to know, that's me!
At the age of 26, I now understand that the true purpose of life - for me anyway - is to be truly and unapologetically happy! So it's time to share some of this with you all!
With that said it leads me to today - a perfect Sunday.
Wandering around Nottingham City Centre we decided to grab a coffee and found the nicest venue - The Malt Cross. It's a Victorian music venue, but in the day it's a light and airy spot to chat away about Sunday's thoughts! I'm definitely going to go back and visit The Malt Cross again at night, the twinkling lights and atmospheric nature of a historic building, along with great music is definitely up my street!
The perfect cosy spot for lunch and a coffee!
As I mentioned above, my mental health is something I've struggled with for as long as I can remember and I'm at a point in my life now that I'm not afraid to speak up or ask for help. With this said, I still have a long way to go and I urge anyone struggling to do the same, speak to a friend, family or go to the GP. There are SO many places to get help either for immediate or long term goals. See the end of this post for some helllllla important numbers to add to your contacts!
I will be incorporating some mindfulness techniques with each of my blog posts so you can feel empowered to get through your day, whether you struggle with your mental health or not - it's so healthy for you, think of it as gym for the mind!
Mindfulness 1: Breathing
Okay, most of you can do this pretty well - that well in fact you can do it in your sleep! But let's really breathe, taking in the moment and being mindful of our bodies whilst we do so.
Let's begin...
Sit comfortably, the sofa, your bed, even the loo!
I want you to really focus on your breath, the in and the out motion, the way your lungs fill all the way to the bottom and moves your shoulders and chest out. I want you to control that motion, to really focus breathing in through your nose for three seconds and hold it - just for a second - then control the release of it through your mouth.
Once you've really concentrated on this a few times, try it with your eyes closed! Let you body relax and be mindful of what's going on just for you.
You may feel a little silly, but don't be! You can do this anywhere, on the train to work, the bus to school, your desk at work - I definitely utilise this skill especially when I'm having a stressful day at work, it's like a little reset button.
[I would just like to add that whilst I do have a BSc in Psychology, I am not a practising therapist and therefore all advice and guidance regarding mental health is strictly my own and for those experiencing symptoms of mental health difficulties should ALWAYS seek professional help]
Thank you for starting this exciting, and a little daunting, adventure with me! Follow the blog and keep up to date with new posts for all things lifestyle, mental health, travel and beauty!
